No Jobs, but Apple is Still Cooking

Steve JobsSteve Jobs may have resigned from Apple last month, but his departure has not discouraged Apple device users contacting the company with complaints and suggestions. The change of leadership at the top may have seen a new Chief Executive in the form of Tim Cook, but there has not been any change in company policy when it comes to listening to the customer and the new CEO has already shown his intention to continue where his predecessor left off.

Responding to an email sent to Cook regarding MobileMe features that have been removed from the new iCloud service, representative of Apple´s complaints account team phoned the customer with a message from Cook. The surprised complainant was subsequently told  that whilst there are no immediate plans to update iCloud with the dropped features of MobileMe, the company has not completely ruled out a return if there is sufficient demand.

The features this particular customer informed about was iDisk and System Preference syncing like keychain, though given the nature of the response, it would appear the new CEO is prepared to listen to any suggestions providing “there´s enough feedback on the subject.” Therefore if you have any personal requests or wish to support somebody else´s appeal do not hesitate in contacting Apple directly through their website.
As part of a FAQ conducted by Apple in June this year, the electrical device company revealed that a number of data syncing features of MobileMe would not be making the transition when when iCloud was released. Most significantly features like Keychains, which sync passwords in the cloud, and System Preferences, which allow users to sync settings between Macs, will no longer be available, nor will users be able to sync Mac Dashboard Widgets, Dock Items, Mail Accounts, Rules, Signatures, iDisk, Gallery, iWeb and Smart Mailboxes.

Despite dropping these features from iCloud, users who have a MobileMe account will see the service extended until June 30 2012, therefore if you use any of the above on a regular basis don´t close your MobileMe account before switching to iCloud. Furthermore, send an email to Apple and post your request on Apple forums appealing to other users who use the service you want to keep to do the same. With enough interest, you may well find you were instrumental in Apple continuing useful functions in updated iCloud versions.
