Wall Street has supposedly been tipped off about Apple’s plans to launch a new iPad in the first quarter of 2011. The upgraded device is expected to include a 7-inch high-resolution Retina Display, a camera, a USB port and 128GB of storage space.
Until an official announcement is made by Apple, the rumours will remain mere speculation, though Brian White of Ticonderoga Securities has suggested Apple could hit 45 million sales next year, almost four times as many iPads shipped in 2010. Whether Wall Street is prepared to put their money where their mouth is remains to be seen, but you can guarantee investors will be keeping a careful eye on Apple’s stock market value.
If the rumours about the new generation iPad are true then consumers can expect a sleeker, more sophisticated and slightly smaller device. Squeezing the display screen down to 7” as opposed to the 9.7” screen it currently sports will reduce its size and make it easier to carry around. The massive increase in memory to 128GB will allow you to store twice as many downloads as the current device and if Apple throw in a camera as well everybody’s a winner.
The inclusion of the USB port is thought to be a follow up of the European Union’s decision to make MicroUSB ports the default charging method for all mobile phones. How about a universal charger for both your mobile and your PMP? What could be more convenient!
