In its first week of launching the Mac OS X Lion, Apple has received great feedback, but users are also questioning why the multimedia giants dropped some of the functions they like on the old operating system.
Lion dispatched over a million downloads in its first day on Mac App Store and glowing reviews flooded the press. The general consensus is that Lion is the best operational system produces for Macs yet. But some end-users are still not satisfied – seemingly because the new and improved OS is too sophisticated and innovative for some people. This user complaint list included moans that some of the new features are too close iPad.
Luckily for Apple, their technicians already thought of that and programming a default program that will get rid of all the new fandangles and return you to a more familiar interface. So if you are one of the purists, here are some tips on how to make your new Mac OS X Lion 10.7 a bit more like the old version 10.6.
Get rid of the “natural” scrolling
If after years using the computer, scrolling down to get the content going upwards will feel like walking down the stairs backwards. If you prefer to go back to something more natural: go to preferences > Trackpad > Scroll and zoom and uncheck the natural scroll direction.
Stop using auto-correction
We know, auto-correction can come in very handy, but it can also be very annoying when it selects a word for you and chooses the wrong one – especially in professional emails and documents that will be read by a boss you´re trying to impress. If you’re confident about your spelling ability you can avoid unwanted mistakes by going to: preferences>Language and Text> Text and uncheck the “Correct Spelling automatically box.
Don’t restore your Applications
Application restore is a feature that can be pretty useful at times, but some users have complained the system doesn’t always work properly. There have been complaints it slows the reaction speed down and hides the menus. This is clearly a bug Apple need to address, but until they fix the problem and provide updates, you can disable the application feature altogether and that will solve the problem. Go to: System Preferences>click General> and uncheck the box beside “Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps”.
Where are my scrollbars?
Don’t worry, your computer has not gone crazy, it´s just that Lion’s scrollbars go AWOL from time to time. If you want them to stay put, go to: System Preferences>choose General>and you’ll see a section called “Show scroll bars” and choose always.
So, there you have it. The Mac OS X Lion is that good even when it goes wrong there is a ready-programmed fix. If you want to join the party Lion is available from the App Stores for US$ 29.99. If you’ve recently bought a qualifying new Mac Computer or an Apple Certified Refurbished computer from the Apple Online Store or authorized resellers, check the up-to-date program, and request the upgrade. You have until August 19, 2011.
