iPhone Launches on Vodafone

The iPhone in the UK is now available on three different networks after the iPhone 3G S goes on sale via Vodafone today. This means that it is now available on contract from the separate sources, though this will not see a reduction in price because of the increased competition with Apple dictating what price they are to be sold for. Even Tesco (Which runs on O2’s network) have strict guidelines for what they can sell the “pay as you go” package that they have recently started offering.

The iPhone you can buy from Vodafone is entirely the same as the iPhone available from Orange and o2, so they only decision you will have to make is are network coverage, tariff and personal choice of operator.

This leaves just T-mobile and Three as the only UK providers not able to offer the iPhone and if online reports are to believed, the iPhone had generated 50,000 pre orders on Vodafone prior to to days launch.

Although the cheapest contract Vodafone are offering is £30 per month, which is the same as Orange and original provider o2, they are currently offering more for that money in terms of Free text and call minutes. Minimum contract lengths remain at 18 months for the iPhone, with 24 month contracts giving  you normally better deal but tying you in to the network for longer.

With each separate contract there is often a one off cost with new iPhone – you can get a “Free iPhone” on some contracts – the 16gb 3g s iPhone is free on £45 per month (24 months) contracts and free on £70 per month (18 months) contracts – No one is offering the larger 32gb 3g s iPhone free regardless of contract length or monthly cost.
