Apple Set to Announce MacBook Pro Updates

Apple’s MacBook Pro is in line for its first major overhaul in almost a year. After a long overdue hardware update the introduction of the new model is anticipated within the next few weeks and with production already underway shipments are planned for the first week of March.

The initial launch planned for earlier this year was initially delayed due to a design fault in the Sandy Bridge processor, but with the problem addressed (though not completely fixed), Apple is confident the new chipsets, dubbed “Cougar Point,” will have a major impact on the next generation MacBook Pros. The Intel chipsets support a total of six serial ATA ports, though is not without its problems. Intel revealed earlier this month that the performance of SATA ports 2 to 5 to will degrade over time under extreme conditions in both desktops applications and mobile phones. The period of time or the classification of “extreme conditions” was not indicated though sources describe the setback as immaterial and is not expected to cause prolonged inconveniences for users.

On a more positive note the redesigned, slim-line MacBook Airs promise to serve as an indicator for future development of the device – and the direction of the company’s notebooks as a whole. Innovative features such as instant-on, standard SSD drives, slimmer enclosures and the omission of optical drives have been a hit with consumers are expected to feature in new models over the next 12 to 18 months.

Rumours circulating the components industry suggest that not only is Apple poised to announce the inclusion of Intel’s chipsets but have revelations of their own to make as well. For now such enhancements are being kept a secret, but it all adds to the anticipation Apple appear to enjoy creating before update launches. Watch this space.
