Apple rumoured to be holding a “Strange” Event in February

Cryptic details given in an article in the Japanese technology publication, Macotakara last month hinted that Apple are scheduled to host an event in February that has been described as “strange,” and another “special” event in March in which the American multimedia giants are expected to unveil the iPad3 to the general public.

The article reads that Apple are proposing to unveil the third generation iPad together with the eagerly anticipated iOS5 which is expected to feature in the next generation of iPhones, and most probably the iPad3. To add weight to the rumour the publication quotes two sources, one an Apple supplier from Asia and the other a US contact who allegedly has close ties with the California-based company.

However, a blogger in Japan, who also claims to have inside knowledge of Apple has countered the report in the Macotakara publication by claiming the story only tells a “half-side of the truth.” According to the blogger, Apple will not hold a full launch of their products until March, but will stage a different kind of event in February, which he quotes as being “strange.” Further details have not been specified other than the event will be more unusual than technology events generally are.

Speculation regarding the rumour has suggested the possibility that the February event, if true, could relate to industry-related announcements similar to the session held in New York in January which focused on the launch of the new iBook2 and iBook author. On that occasion, Apple demonstrated the release of its new software rather than hardware.

With that in mind, it may well be the case that Apple demonstrate the capabilities of the iOS5 in February, ahead of the scheduled launch of the third generation iPad. With the technological advancements made by Apple in their software in the last couple of years, consumers can expect the iOS5 software to offer something extra special.

The recent rumours correspond with reports in the last couple of months indicating that Apple will hold an event for the launch of the new iPad which will feature the educational learning tool iBook2 as reported by cheapest-ipod in January. American media giants, Bloomberg have also stated that Apple will hold a launch event around mid-March to show off the next-generation iPad. Bloomberg also said the new hardware will feature a high-resolution display, LTE compatibility and a quad core-processor.

Other reports also indicate the next-generation iPad will come equipped with a double-resolution display that sports a pixel density of 254 pixels per inch together with an A6 processor which will ultimately give the device faster download speeds and brighter, clearer colours.

As is often the case with Apple, rumours surface and fade every week so until an event is officially announced it is not known exactly when any new software or hardware will be launched to the public. What we do know is that a toy will soon be available on the market. In the meantime, watch this space
