Steve Jobs unveiled the iCloud music download service this week just moments after announcing the feature at this year’s World Development Conference on Monday. In his traditional key note speech of the Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple´s Managing Director declared:
Today it is a real hassle and very frustrating to keep all your information and content up-to-date across all your devices. iCloud keeps your important information and content up-to-date across all your devices. All of this happens automatically and wirelessly, and because it’s integrated into our apps you don’t even need to think about it—it all just works.
All that for free and with no adverts!
iCloud promises to revolutionize the synchronization between your iGadgets, because you won’t have to do a thing. Everything that’s on the can be downloaded on all your handheld gadgets, as if it was always there. This may seem like a tall order, but after admitting that MobileMe, the predecessor of iCloud, wasn’t the company’s finest hour, Apple have seem to have delivered what they always intended to do. Let´s take a look.
Your Documents in the Cloud
Most apps, including apples’ AppStore, will be supported by iCloud. All you will need to do is install it by clicking the cloud button. If you are creating a document on Pages, you can publish it on the cloud and have it on every device which you have Pages installed. Or you could share it with other iCloud users. The same goes for Keynote and Numbers.
Your Tunes in the Cloud
Any music purchased through iTunes will be automatically downloaded by iCloud. Which means you can buy a song from iTunes on your iPad at home, and find it waiting for you on your iPhone. This service is available in Beta for the US, check the system requirements. And if you want all the benefits for songs you haven’t bought through iTunes, iTunes Match is your guy. Any music that is found on iTunes Store is automatically added to your iCloud.
You Photos in the Cloud
Photo Stream is a new resource that sends all the pictures you take or import to be stored in the cloud, so you don’t run out of space on your iGadgets. The last 1000 pics appear in a Photo Stream album. You can store up to 30 images on your handheld device, but if you want to save more all you need to do is create a folder in iCloud and store them there.
iCloud Backup will provide you with easy backup files, and if you need restoration, all you have to do is connect the gadget to wi-fi and enter you Apple ID details and everything, music, apps, data, pics, the lot will appear on it.
With iCloud your iPhone, iPad and iPod will free up more space and transform your device from a storage space for content to a remote server that can access content on the cloud.
