Apple Apologise For iPhone 4 Signal Defect

Apple was forced last week to issue a public statement apologising for faults found with the iPhone 4. The latest model in smartphone technology is the most successful product campaign in the history of the American giants, despite the hundreds of complaints from users about the poor quality of reception.

To their credit Apple looked into the problem immediately and discovered the fault was due to inaccuracies in the formula they use to display signal strength. The iPhone 4 was overstating the signal strength by displaying too many bars.

Like all mobile phones, gripping the device in the wrong way or too hard can cause a significant drop in signal. To address the issue, Apple are reprogramming their design software with a formula recommended by AT&T which will give a more accurate signal strength reading. The update will also be available for iPhone 3G and 3GS.

Apple wanted to assure owners of the iPhone 4 that the problem has only existed in a small percentage of cases and mostly in areas where the signal is normally at a low frequency. However, if a customer is dissatisfied with their iPhone 4, they will be entitled to a full refund provided the device is not damaged and returned within 30 days of purchase.
